setting up shop

In 2011 one thing I really want to do is open my own stall or shop. Items such as these original 1970's platforms and these vintage style sunnies will breathe the vintage vibe into the streets of Dorchester. I believe this is my purpose this year.

A New Epoch...
As a creative I must keep the cogs moving and hands ticking over in my styling clock. I moved to Dorset after graduating from Birmingham University in 2008. In whirling a rush to leave the city behind and turn a new page in life. After a week of mooching about town I thought for minute I'd stepped into a time zone os stillness because compared to my home city life this town had 'stood still'. It's a very non fashion orientated place which is terrible for a city fast pace fashion lover like me. No regular buses, empty streets after 4pm, Not many shops, bars, clubs, events, students or even tower blocks. I soon realised my life had changed over night, mostly it appeared my passion and love for shopping was going to stop immediately. My worst fear was my photography was going to end. Luckily I met a great photographer named Graham Woolcott who over time and various shoots has helped me continue a journey of photo-vision.

I used the urban city scape as a natural back drop to my shoots. Living in Birmingham City you can imagine my previous portfolio was full of old factories derelict buildings, boarded Windows, council tower blocks graffiti and urban decay.  You can understand why I craved and needed change. Conversely ,I have adjusted to this 'stillness' and by connecting to the beauty of this small town has encouraged a new found Romance which has enlightened to me to the beauties of nature. Turns out it isn't that 'still' at all, things grow change and blossom with the seasons which in itself is them same as fashion and the nature of being human.
There fore my work is Human; I have to be resourceful, when interesting new faces and locations such as woodland or abandoned WWII air raid shelters come to my attention I embrace and capture them in the light of day. Although my landscape has changed there is remaining continuity in my work because I always use real life models. I capture where I am and how I feel about it. I hope this makes others connect to it.
Taking a snap shot of reality by using real life people who for me represent my styling - in a word  unpretentious
This work is an an etched out interpretation of MY life in the country, I depict my mode of emotion styling wise at each stage. Since life has become more positive my work has evolved more organic more charming, more bewildering inspiration leading to the following designs and photographs...

This shoot was modeled and assisted by a group of friends who are local to me and I find interesting. They are fresh new spirits and very photogenic, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity in photographing them and I hope to produce more series of works in the future. Meet BEN, SAM & ZOE

rippy bitsy lets get stitchy

This is my bundle of charity shop joy.  I have been cutting, stitching, ripping and un-picking a few second hand ingredients ; mixed together to produce a yummy or possibly (un-yummy) home made photo shoot. I'd love to know what you think.

Home Made- felt pen is fun
